Warrenville issues Earth Day, Arbor Day and Mental Health proclamations; honors longtime volunteers

Mayor Andrew Johnson read proclamations recognizing April 22 as Earth Day and April 24 as Arbor Day in Warrenville, highlighting the Environmental Advisory Commission’s role in promoting environmental education and announcing a public Arbor Day celebration with free tree seedlings and presentations. Pat McNelte, a Warrenville Environmental Advisory Commission member, invited residents to the Arbor Day event and described participating organizations and seeded species.
The council also proclaimed April 19–25 National Volunteer Week. Mayor Johnson and staff honored David Anderson and Tim Sleep for decades of volunteer service at the Warrenville Historical Museum and Art Gallery; Sarah Failen identified herself as the museum director.
Finally, the council proclaimed May as Mental Health Awareness Month. Sheila Rage (township supervisor) and Barb Layman (chair of the local mental health board) urged residents to reduce stigma, seek help when needed and support forthcoming mental-health programming and grant funding.
These proclamations were ceremonial but used council time to promote community events and resources. Staff asked residents to consult the city website for event dates and volunteer opportunities.
