Mr. Ryland led the board in recognizing staff and students selected as this month's "Face of a Raven." Staff honorees included Lena Miring, a fifth-grade teacher at Brown Middle School, and Austin Gilbert, an intervention specialist at Brown Middle School, both praised for classroom leadership and student support.
Student honorees spanned preschool through high school. Preschooler Alana Truex was cited for consistent kindness; first-grader Aubrey Jones was praised for academic effort and helpfulness; third-grader Zoe Tempestilli was commended as respectful and responsible, with a teacher observed to have said, "I have never heard her say an unkind word to anyone." Eighth-grader Ryan Everson was recognized for straight A's, near-perfect attendance and organizing a student clothing drive. Senior Cohen Ko was noted for academic resilience and character; staff said they would ensure he received his award.
Board members and administrators invited award recipients and their families for photos in the cafeteria after the recognitions. The superintendent and Dr. Flowers coordinated the presentation; staff nominations and teacher comments were read aloud to the board.
The recognitions were followed by routine business; board members were reminded of upcoming events including the State of the Schools presentation and Maplewood career awards.
