The Destin City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to appoint Chatham Morgan as interim city council member to fill the remainder of a vacant term.
Council members said they heard from 11 applicants before making the selection and cited experience with the city’s budget process as a key factor. Dr. Jones presented Item 4A and the council entertained nominations; following brief discussion about candidates’ qualifications, a motion to appoint Chatham Morgan passed 5–0. Councilman Bagby said he favored Morgan because of his prior budget experience, and other members praised multiple applicants for their willingness to serve.
Several applicants addressed the council during public comment. John Stevens described his service as chair of the Harbor CRA and other local committees and said he is prepared to “step right in” if selected. Ryan Holloway highlighted private‑sector finance experience and ownership of local businesses. Alan Osborne emphasized military leadership and a results‑oriented approach. Chatham Morgan and other applicants outlined prior council and committee experience.
Morgan will be sworn in at the council’s May 4 regular meeting and serve until the November general election. Council members reminded applicants that three seats will be on the ballot in November and encouraged those interested to apply for committee vacancies in the meantime.
The appointment followed the council’s standard process for interim selections; the motion carried without recorded opposition.
