Dates and content: Committee members discussed holding the retreat the weekend of May 16–17, shifting to May 15–16 (Friday–Saturday), or using a Friday–Saturday format to reduce conflicts. The mayor said the venue (Call Me Ridge) is reserved and proposed a retreat agenda focused on high-level budget direction for the general fund and major non-utility CIP items. Administration noted department directors are salaried-exempt and said staffing for a Friday meeting would not necessarily create overtime costs.
Staffing timelines: The mayor summarized the city administrator recruitment schedule: posting ran April 3–22; staff reported about 18 applicants; phone interviews were to be scheduled the week of April 20, panel interviews would begin May 11, final interviews were planned for May 12, a community meet-and-greet was scheduled for May 12 and council interviews were suggested for May 13 (4–6 p.m.) with a hoped-for June start date for the new administrator. The committee also discussed the council vacancy process with interviews tentatively planned for May 6 and staff (city attorney and administration) agreeing to provide agenda wording that allows action if the council chooses that night.
Next steps: Administration said it will poll council members on retreat date preference, circulate options and bring a firm agenda and content recommendations back to the council on or before the next meeting.
