Carbon County commissioners approve $2.39 million in expenditures, budget transfers and $50,000 opioid grant to Family Promise

Jim Thorpe, Pa. — The Carbon County Board of Commissioners on April 16 approved a slate of routine financial and personnel items, including checks totaling $2,391,998.36 and a $50,000 award from opioid settlement funds to Family Promise of Carbon County.
The board unanimously approved the expenditure list covering check numbers 265084 through 265315 that drew from multiple county funds — including $225,155.25 from the General Fund and $2,307,137.70 recorded in the Opioid Settlement Fund as of the treasurer’s report. The vote followed motions made by Commissioner Rocky C. Ahner and seconded by Commissioner Wayne E. Nothstein; all three commissioners voted yes.
The commissioners also approved routine budget transfers and supplemental appropriations as listed on the April 16 transmittals. County Treasurer Kevin Zelienka’s report, accepted by the board, listed balances for dozens of funds, including a General Fund SP NOW balance of $4,005,067.32 and an Opioid Settlement Fund balance of $2,307,137.70.
In a separate action the board approved $50,000 of AG settlement dollars for Family Promise of Carbon County to fund shelter services, meals, job training, housing assistance, linkage to services and case management for people affected by opioid use disorder. The motion was made by Commissioner Nothstein and seconded by Commissioner Ahner; the board polled Ahner, Nothstein and Chairman Michael J. Sofranko and recorded unanimous approval.
