Murrieta awards $759,688 emergency contract to replace Hayes Avenue Bridge

The Murrieta City Council on April 21 approved an emergency construction contract and budget appropriation to replace the Hayes Avenue Bridge at Miller Canyon Creek following the partial failure the city identified in February 2025.
Engineering Manager Jeff Hitch outlined the repair approach: the city purchased four precast arch-span components that will be craned into place on cast‑in‑place foundations. The recommended contractor, Myriad Development Company, submitted the lowest quote. The contract amount is $607,750 plus a 25% contingency to address emergency unknowns, bringing the total project authorization to $759,688.
Hitch said the city will file emergency permits and aims to begin construction as early as May, with precast components expected to be delivered by late May; the installation of the pre‑cast structure is planned as a single‑day lift, followed by backfill, paving and finishing work.
Council members thanked staff for advancing the repair and voted unanimously to appropriate additional area drainage funds and to award the contract to Myriad Development Company.
