Community Learning Centers to run 10 elementary sites; tutors, grants and an Aug. 18 field trip planned

District CLC staff and program leaders described summer operations and academic-tutoring supports.
Paul, a member of the CLC staff, said Community Learning Centers will operate at 10 elementary schools from May 28 through Aug. 19, typically 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and middle-school programming will run at New McGovern and Empower campuses from about 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. He estimated the program will serve about 1,400 elementary students and roughly 300 middle-school students this summer and said the district will bus students for a concluding summer Olympics event at Sanford Sports Complex on Aug. 18.
Rebecca Wimmer described the academic side: two Department of Education grants fund targeted tutoring in several elementary schools, with tutors meeting students multiple times per week and focusing on math and reading while preserving a fun, hands-on atmosphere.
Enrollment and tuition supports were described as flexible: families should contact the CLC enrollment office to complete paperwork and to explore child-care assistance or scholarship opportunities to reduce cost barriers.
