Oak Creek adopts updated recycling ordinance and adjusts related fees

Oak Creek’s Common Council adopted Ordinance No. 3157 on April 21, 2026, a comprehensive update to chapter 8 of the municipal code that revises the city’s recycling rules to conform to recent administrative code changes and the city’s role as a ‘responsible unit.’

Matt Trebuski, Oak Creek’s director of public works, told the council the changes are extensive but largely administrative, intended to bring the city into compliance with state administrative code revisions that took effect last year. “Essentially there were a number of administrative code revisions that took effect last year. This is bringing us into compliance as a responsible unit,” Trebuski said.

Council members also considered a companion resolution (No. 12677‑042126) to update various fees, permits and charges so the city’s fee schedule aligns with the revised ordinance and to remove subdivision‑related items the city no longer handles. The resolution was adopted by roll call.

The ordinance and fee updates proceeded through roll-call votes with no amendments recorded at the meeting. Officials said the changes clarify administrative responsibility and update fees to reflect the newly adopted code language; specific fee line items are available on the city’s common council agenda page.

Adoption of the ordinance does not itself describe operational changes in curbside collection schedules or service levels; staff said they would make any necessary operational communications to affected residents and businesses.
