The Parks Commission voted to accept a Park Passport outreach pilot that encourages residents to visit city parks and rewards participants with small prizes and a grand-prize drawing.
Commissioner Rachel Lucas presented a one-page program summary and recommended a conservative start size of 100 participants "just because we aren't sure yet of what the participation would be like," noting per-participant and employee-time costs were included in the packet. "Everyone who's [sic] ... goes to all the parks and fills out the passport is entered for a grand prize of like a city t-shirt or baseball hat," Lucas said.
Why it matters: staff said the pilot is intended to increase park use, provide outreach data and test administrative costs before any larger roll-out. The pilot was approved by voice vote and commissioners authorized implementation for up to 100 participants.
Next steps: staff will finalize materials, track participation, and report pilot costs and outcomes to the commission.
