Commissioners noted the rec center lacks dedicated storage or classroom space for campers' belongings and that campers' items on gym bleachers create conflicts when the gym is used for open play. "We don't have the space to keep the summer camp their backpacks and their lunches . . . in any specific place, but the gym on the bleachers," a staff representative said.
Members asked staff to coordinate with the program supervisor (Ashley) about scheduling—using Wednesdays when campers are on field trips for more open-gym time—and to check multipurpose-room availability on a daily basis for short windows of open gym.
On staffing, commissioners said the rec needs more lifeguards. The commission is running American Red Cross lifeguard certification courses and will do pool training the last week of May ahead of the Jefferson Pool opening May 30. A starting pay figure of "1550" was cited in the meeting audio; the transcript did not specify the format (for example, whether that means $15.50 per hour), so the commission recorded the number but did not clarify currency or units.
No formal policy changes were adopted; staff was asked to follow up on scheduling options and to continue recruitment and certification of lifeguards.
