Parents and a teacher at public comment raise development safety concerns and urge reconsideration of a Sunset Ranch staffing decision

Two public‑comment items drew trustees’ attention at the April 22 meeting.

First, Montessori teacher and parent Christie Boothby urged the district to formally engage with Meadow Montessori Charter Academy (MMCA) and community partners regarding a proposed out‑of‑state development abutting a kindergarten playground. Boothby said the developer’s plan places a parking lot about nine feet higher and roughly 13 feet from the playground, raising concerns about vehicle runoff, insufficient barriers and the potential for parked cars to overflow into school lots. She asked the district to be a co‑stakeholder with MMCA, help define appropriate land uses adjacent to schools, and pursue further study of the project’s safety implications.

Second, parents from Sunset Ranch Elementary — including Cody Coror and Jake — asked the board to revisit a decision not to invite a particular teacher back next year. Speakers described strong community support for the teacher, emotional impacts on students, and a petition circulated by families; they asked the board to review or provide context for the personnel decision. Trustees and staff acknowledged receipt of the comments and offered to follow up by email and appropriate staff channels; personnel matters were not discussed in detail during public comment.
