Associate Superintendent Martin Flowers and curriculum leader Amanda Bannister described a multi‑stage review: identification of pilot curricula in September, two six‑week pilots (fall 2025 and winter 2026), committee review using the district’s instructional‑materials toolkit, and narrowing novel lists to three or four per grade for final selection. The committee will select one core novel per grade level to purchase alongside the HMH textbook.
The adoption follows the College Board’s announcement that the SpringBoard curriculum will be sunsetted; staff said state framework changes are not anticipated and they have been in touch with the California Department of Education to confirm alignment. Flowers said neighboring districts have taken different approaches and some moved away from SpringBoard earlier. The public review will include digital access to materials and a process for submitting comments to the board email, with action on May 27 if the board is ready to adopt.
What happens next: the 30‑day public review begins April 23; staff will host review access and answer questions; the board is scheduled to consider adoption May 27 and, if approved, sites will receive materials and professional development will follow.
