Committee advances sale of small parcel to Chester County Rural Water, asks buyer to cover closing costs
Summary
The finance committee agreed to send a contract to full council for the sale of approximately 6,000 sq ft to Chester County Rural Water for $17,000, with the buyer responsible for transfer costs; committee also discussed alternative storage options the county could pursue instead of selling more land.

Miss Stanley reviewed a prior Rural Water inquiry about purchasing roughly 6,000 square feet of county land near Highway 9 for $17,000. She said the assessor listed the full property at about $125,000 but the utility had expressed interest only in a corner parcel. Committee members discussed alternatives including purchasing shipping containers (quoted under $5,000 each) and using county-owned property for consolidated storage rather than selling larger tracts.
Committee members cited benefits of transferring that small parcel — the buyer would erect a fence and pay for surveying and deed transfer — and weighed whether selling the corner would diminish the remainder’s value. After discussion about citizen benefit from improved water service and the availability of cheaper storage options, a motion passed to take the sale contract for the small section to full council and to have the buyer incur closing, fencing and survey costs.
Miss Stanley said the sale decision would be implemented at full council and that the committee preferred selling the small section rather than the entire property at this time. The committee did not record a roll-call vote in the committee transcript; the motion carried by voice vote.
