St. Peter amends code to allow Sunday liquor sales at 8 a.m., effective immediately

At its Sept. 22 meeting, the St. Peter City Council adopted an ordinance amendment to align the city’s liquor-license hours with Minnesota statute, allowing licensed establishments to open for liquor sales beginning at 8 a.m. on Sundays.
City staff explained the draft amendment follows state law and does not change end times or other license conditions. A council member reported that several local licensees had asked the council and city staff for the change; another council member thanked residents for attending meetings and noted public engagement can influence policy. “The state statute and your ordinance, should you approve the ordinance change, would allow Sunday liquor sales at 8:00 on Sundays,” staff said in presenting the draft.
The council moved, seconded and adopted the ordinance by roll call; staff said the change is effective immediately (technically the coming Sunday morning).
