Council honors two longtime employees and approves plats, variances and claims

At its July 7 meeting the Fergus Falls City Council adopted resolutions recognizing the retirements of two longtime city employees and approved a series of consent agenda items and claims presented for payment.
The council passed a resolution accepting the resignation of Deborah Zachman, a part-time library assistant hired on December 31, 2012, with an effective retirement date of July 18, 2025. Jim Fish offered the resolution; council members gave Zachman applause and she told the council it had been a "joy and an honor" to serve library patrons.
The council also accepted the resignation of Colleen Connley Bruceen, a police department records technician hired June 15, 2005, recognizing roughly 20 years of service. Both retirement resolutions were adopted by roll call.
On the consent agenda council approved a combined preliminary and final plat for Center Point addition (1701 W. Lincoln Ave) and a final plat for FF Ventures addition (528 Western Ave) with conditions as recommended by the planning commission, a variance to allow a covered front porch encroaching into the front setback, and temporary personnel and licensing actions. The council then approved the presentation of claims and directed payment; the transcript lists the claims amount in garbled form ('one u772,1549') so the precise dollar figure was not clear in the meeting record and should be confirmed in the formal claims ledger.
The council closed the meeting with announcements including a public meet-and-greet for police chief finalists July 15, a committee of the whole on July 16, the next council meeting July 21, and the next town hall July 29.
