At its Oct. 14 meeting the Town of Pittsboro Board of Commissioners approved several ceremonial items, heard staff updates and later entered closed session to consult with the town attorney on litigation and property acquisition.
The board adopted a memorial resolution honoring Jean Terrell Brooks for decades of community service and 25 years as a town commissioner. The board read and proclaimed October 2024 as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and adopted a resolution supporting veterans and announcing a rededication ceremony for the Blue Star Memorial marker on Nov. 8, 2024 (in partnership with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7313 and American Legion Post 93).
Later in the agenda the board moved into discussion of major agenda items (climate action planning and fleet procurement). Toward the end of the meeting a motion to enter closed session was made pursuant to North Carolina statutes (cited in the meeting) to consult the town attorney to protect attorney–client privilege concerning the judicial action titled Town of Pittsboro v. 3M and to consider acquisition of real property by purchase, option, exchange or lease. The motion was seconded and carried by voice vote; no details of closed-session discussions were disclosed in open session. The board returned to open session and adjourned.
Votes at a glance: the memorial resolution, the breast-cancer proclamation and the Blue Star Memorial resolution were adopted by voice vote; the motion to table the climate plan and the motion to enter closed session were both carried by voice vote. No roll-call tallies were recorded in the transcript.
