Chief, public works staff report on Night to Unite, seal coating and Gorman Park progress

St. Peter — Staff used the reports portion of Monday’s meeting to recap community outreach and infrastructure work: the police department highlighted Night to Unite, and public works outlined street seal coating activity and progress at Gorman Park.
The police chief thanked staff and volunteers and said Night to Unite provided an opportunity for community engagement across multiple stops, noting partner participation from the Minnesota State Patrol, ambulance and fire departments. "It's a fun night," the chief said, and added the event gives officers a chance to ask residents what they can do better.
Pete briefed the council on street seal coating operations. He described the surface preparation process (crack grinding, mastic/rubberized caulk, application of CRS‑2 emulsifying oil) and said crews covered treated streets with rock. The transcript records "1,500 tons of red rock" placed and that crews were actively picking up excess rock with about 100 blocks remaining to be swept. Pete asked residents to respect no‑parking signs while crews complete pickup. On Gorman Park, staff said concrete work is about 50% complete with a target to finish the concrete phase around Aug. 20; remaining tasks include irrigation, electrical work, plantings and installation of playground equipment (equipment has been delivered and the installation contractor is standing by). Staff said the overall park work is expected to continue into October.
Staff also reminded council members that general fund and special fund budget workshops are scheduled in coming weeks and that finance will provide materials (a council member requested Excel spreadsheets).
