St. Peter council authorizes RFP process for sale of current city hall at 227 South Front Street

The St. Peter City Council on Oct. 13 approved a resolution authorizing staff to issue a request for proposals for the sale of the city's current city hall at 227 South Front Street.
Todd, speaking for staff, said the RFP approach is similar to previous solicitations the city used for other surplus property and is intended to let the council evaluate proposals based not only on price but on community impact, design and proposed use. The staff memo and the RFP will include additional attachments prepared by ISG, the city's consultant, that map land and easement information and analyze the building structure so proposals can account for potential demolition or equipment to be retained (including a substation).
Todd said the timeline in the draft RFP contained placeholder dates; staff expects to give prospective respondents three to four weeks to prepare proposals once the RFP posts, arrange one or more site tours and hopes to complete interviews and possibly a final decision before the end of the year or in January. A council member flagged a date in the draft that preceded the meeting; staff agreed to remove or correct it.
The council approved the resolution by roll call, directing staff to issue the RFP once the consultant materials and an updated timeline are ready.
