St. Peter council approves hospital equipment purchase, new licenses, festival support and community center lease

The St. Peter City Council on July 28 approved several routine and budgeted items, including a hospital equipment purchase, business and peddlers' licenses, city assistance for a local festival and a one-year lease with the school district for community center space.
River's Edge Hospital requested authorization to purchase an OEC Elite 31 cm digital mobile C-arm for use in joint and spine procedures, with a proposed $49,000 trade-in for an older Super C and a net purchase price of $132,775. Paula, the hospital representative, said the hospital and hospital commission recommended using cash reserves for the purchase and that the transaction would leave about half of the capital budget available for the rest of the year. The council approved the resolution by roll call.
City staff presented several new licenses: Smithsonian Consulting (tree and turf home care) for a tree worker license; Cavo LLC for an on-sale and Sunday liquor license at a Minnesota Avenue restaurant; Dylan Smith doing business as Econo Shield for a six-month peddler’s license; and Benjamin Ramp doing business as 10,000 Lakes Cannabis Company for a state registration to sell retail cannabis at 202 S. Minnesota Avenue. Staff said background checks were completed and recommended approval; the council approved the licenses.
The council also authorized city assistance for the Rockbend Folk Festival on Sept. 6–7 in Minnesota Square Park, noting required insurance, restroom and staging coordination, and approved a one-year lease with the St. Peter School District for Room 114 of the community center (Rockbend Academy), generating approximately $1,300 per month in revenue. The district had authorized its superintendent to enter the lease if the council approved.
After routine reports and recognition of retiring employee Sally Vogle, the council approved a resolution to meet in closed session to discuss potential transactions involving property at 107 Nassau and 105 Brown Street; the council moved to the adjacent room and did not return to the chamber for further public business.
