St. Peter approves one-year contract with Operating Engineers Local 70 for electric line workers

After a brief executive session on union negotiations, the St. Peter City Council on May 27 approved a one-year contract with International Union of Operating Engineers Local 70 covering the city’s electric line workers.
Staff presented the contract, which runs Jan. 6–Dec. 31, 2025, and said the union had agreed and signed off. Key changes include a $3-per-hour across-the-board pay increase for all classifications within the contract, an increase to the on-call pay trigger (from $300 to $325), a reduction in probation from 12 months to six months to align with non-union staff, a jury-duty pay change (approximately a $20 modification), and clarifications on safety equipment such as eyewear and footwear.
Todd told the council the union had voted to accept the contract and staff recommended the council approve the resolution authorizing the mayor to sign. The council approved the contract by roll call. The resolution and the signed contract were provided in the meeting packet.
