The St. Peter City Council on April 28 approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of a 2025 TX High Ranger LT40 aerial device mounted on a Ford chassis for use in street-light and signal maintenance.
City staff explained the proposed unit is similar to the existing truck but with a 40-foot lift capacity needed to service Highway 169 signal infrastructure and other tall fixtures. The unit’s purchase price was stated at about $188,905; staff said they expect to receive roughly $36,000 in trade-in value when the existing 2007 unit is declared surplus. The electric fund has $164,000 budgeted for the acquisition.
Staff also described ongoing maintenance costs for the current unit near $7,500 per year and increasing failures in the hydraulic components as reasons to replace the older truck. The procurement used a cooperative purchasing vehicle (similar to a state bid) to obtain the quoted unit.
Council approved the purchase by roll call. Staff said the surplus 2007 unit will be sold after receipt of the new truck.
