St. Peter council authorizes engineering services for 2027 Minnesota Avenue rebuild

The St. Peter City Council voted May 27 to authorize engineering services for a planned 2027 rebuild of Minnesota Avenue from Chestnut to Union.
Pete told the council the work would include sanitary sewer mainline and services, water services, stormwater improvements, sidewalk, curb and gutter and street reconstruction. Staff said the project would follow the city’s assessment policy and Minnesota statute 429 procedures; an engineer will prepare a feasibility study over the next months, followed by a public hearing and a 60% plan by November to meet a spring 2026 bidding schedule and a 2027 construction start.
Staff requested that Bolton & Mink prepare plans and coordinate with MnDOT on the project. Council voted to approve the resolution authorizing engineering services as presented; the vote was recorded by roll call with all listed members voting in the affirmative.
Packet materials include project scope and the resolution on pages 43–45. Staff said property-owner assessments under Statute 429 are possible under the city’s assessment policy and that homeowners would be engaged through the feasibility and hearing process.
