The St. Peter City Council on April 28 adopted a resolution approving a new administrative specialist job description designed to support the police department's operational and records workloads.
City staff described the position as not intended to add a full-time equivalent immediately; instead, it is a role the city would use if there is an organizational change or increased service need. The position would be based at an entryway on the north end of the Scholarship America building and would work alongside existing office staff.
Duties outlined in the job description include preparing and organizing files from the city’s Axon mobile and body cameras, performing redactions for legal review, assisting with investigative file assembly, processing gun-permit applications, and responding to data-practice requests. Staff said the position will coordinate with the city attorney or county attorney as needed for redacted materials.
Council members asked clarifying questions about how residents would interact with the position and about hours; staff replied the proposal contemplates fixed hours and an arrangement similar to current front-desk coverage, with potential half-day schedules on Fridays to mirror other city staffing.
The resolution approving the position description appears in the council packet and passed by roll call vote.
