Michigan House introduces nearly two dozen bills, then adjourns for lack of quorum

House Bill 5897 would establish a PFAS Action Response Team and was referred to the Committee on Government Operations. House Bill 5899 would create an Artificial Intelligence Governing Board and was referred to the Committee on Communications and Technology; the transcript rendered the bill title as 'Artificial Intelligent Governing Board,' and this article uses the corrected and commonly used phrase 'Artificial Intelligence.' The clerk also announced earlier in the session that House Bills 5843 through 5880 and House Concurrent Resolutions S and T had been posted electronically on April 22.
Minority Leader Puri recognized Take Your Child to Work Day on the floor, introducing visiting children by name and saying, in part, "it may be a quiet day in the chamber, but it is a special day on the house floor, as my colleagues and I are celebrating Take Your Child to Work Day." The invocation opening the session was given by state Representative Angela Whitwer of the 76th District.
Because a quorum was not present, the clerk closed the day's business and announced the House would stand adjourned until Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. The adjournment ended the day's proceedings before any committee debates or floor votes could be held on the introduced measures.
