Parks staff presented the city's updated 2025 deer-hunt management plan, describing the plan's two seasons, the addition of zone six in the old Fen Park area, and permit pricing and quantities for the coming year.
"Tonight we are just bringing forward the updated 2025 plan," Miss Nelson said, adding that the Department of Natural Resources had accepted the applications and that staff planned public education and outreach ahead of the seasons. Staff said resident permits would again be $20 and nonresident permits $75; the city increased the number of permits for the coming cycle from 10 previously to 16.
Council member Bill Helms asked about current population counts; staff said no formal 2024 survey was conducted and that an informal survey was done in March but the next planned informal survey is early 2027 unless the council requests an earlier count.
The council did not take a formal vote during the work session; staff requested council approval of the updated management plan so staff could proceed with outreach and permit administration.
