Voyageurs National Park updates board on staffing, dark-sky programming and 2026 repairs

Brian Harmon, acting superintendent at Voyageurs National Park, briefed the Koochiching County Board on staffing and planned park projects during the April 28 meeting.
Harmon said a new park ranger will start after completing training and noted the park’s 50th-anniversary events in 2025. He highlighted the park’s Dark Sky programming and said 2026 plans include replacing the electrical line that supplies power to Kettle Falls, and early-stage planning for road, parking and walkway repairs at and around the visitor center. Harmon also said the park continues wetland restoration work, including removal of invasive hybrid cattails.
The board thanked Harmon for the update. No funding requests or formal actions tied to the park update were recorded in the meeting minutes.
