Several speakers also spoke in defense of Ms. Kirkley, describing her long service and positive impact on students. Dulce Ayala described Ms. Kirkley as "an amazing teacher" who helped her daughter become an A student; Alexa Soto and Barbara Cervantes offered similar testimonials about academic progress under the teacher's instruction.
On the related issue of potential school closures, multiple commenters worried that Lugo Elementary could be targeted and said they were not being adequately informed. The board responded, stating there is "no plan to close Lugo" at present and that any school‑closure process would include community meetings and be folded into the district's city‑district collaborative framework.
