Thomas (last name given as C O S T) told the council during public participation that a coyote entered his neighborhood and killed his cat. He said public works set a cage trap but he believes snares previously used by USDA were more effective and asked the city to arrange for USDA assistance.
Council members and staff described a prior USDA contract and said federal personnel had been pulled off local assignments around February or March; Eddie from Public Works and Mr. Connor said staff would contact USDA the next day to check availability. Mayor Brad Bass said staff would push the issue and explore options, including a special meeting or contract extension if needed to redeploy traps.
Thomas praised public works for a prompt response; council and staff acknowledged ongoing constraints on in-house staff time and said they would pursue USDA contact as a next step.
Action: staff to contact USDA and report back on availability of snaring/trapping resources and any contract steps required.
