Spanish Fort introduces zoning change to allow golf-cart sales; public hearing set for May 4

The Spanish Fort City Council on April 20 introduced Ordinance No. 737-2026, which would amend Ordinance No. 5196 (Table of Permitted Uses, section 6.4) to add golf-cart sales as an authorized use. Under the draft language read by city staff, golf-cart sales enclosed within a structure would be permitted by right in B4 and allowed with Planning Commission approval in B3. The amendment would permit the outside display of no more than one golf cart on the same property, provided it does not impede pedestrian or vehicular traffic, complies with applicable ADA standards and contains no advertising on the displayed cart.
Mr. Connor said the Planning Commission held a public hearing on April 13 and forwarded a positive recommendation. Council set a public hearing on the ordinance for May 4, 2026, when the body will consider public comment and a potential vote.
No change to the zoning code has occurred yet; the ordinance was introduced for consideration and will return for a public hearing and action on May 4.
