Menands board grants conditional special-use permit for 93 Broadway

The Village of Menands Board of Trustees voted April 20 to grant a conditional special-use permit for a proposed project at 93 Broadway, the board said.
Matt from Abella, the village’s designated engineer/planner, told trustees the applicant initially proposed on-site manufacturing, which would have required a change of use and expensive upgrades including building-wide sprinklers. The applicants subsequently withdrew plans for manufacturing; Abella recommended conditional approval with requirements that the applicant coordinate with Albany County on any hazardous materials storage, verify whether a New York State Department of Transportation highway work permit is required, update the environmental assessment form, and submit revised site plans for village review. Chief Ogdman (fire) has signed off on the current plan, Abella said.
A trustee moved to approve the permit subject to the listed conditions, a second was recorded and the board approved the motion by voice vote. The transcript does not record a roll-call tally or the mover’s and seconder’s names. The board and Abella noted that if the applicant later seeks to conduct manufacturing at the site, it must return for a revised building permit and further village review.
The permit approval follows an engineer’s review that began in February and included coordination among village staff and county agencies, the board said. The trustees did not add substantive changes to Abella’s recommended conditions during the public meeting.
