License transfers approved for Lakeview Liquors and Taste of India; Masala Magic to wait on ABCC approval before selling alcohol

At the April 23 meeting the Lowell License Commission approved two transfer-related items: a change in officers and stock interest for Lakeview Liquors Inc. (815 Lakeview Ave.) and the transfer of an all-alcohol restaurant license to Masala Magic LLC for a new restaurant to operate as Taste of India at 1717 Middlesex St., Unit 3.

Attorney Tom Truax told the commission that the Lakeview transaction will change the ownership structure from a single 100% shareholder (Jayesh Patel) to three shareholders: Jayesh Patel transferring 50% to Parth Patel and 25% to Kalpesh Kumar Patel (the latter was not present). Truax said there would be no operational changes — same hours, employees and floor plan — and the commission opened the public hearing, received no public comments in favor or opposition, and approved the change.

Representing Masala Magic, counsel Alex Burjua and applicant Hardik Patel said the new business purchased assets (including the liquor license) from Embassy Inc., which operated as Indian Pizzeria. Hardik Patel appeared as the proposed manager of record, said he is TIPS-certified and has managed a licensed establishment since 2019, and stated that Taste of India will not have alcohol on the premises or serve alcohol until the Massachusetts Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission (ABCC) approves the transfer. The commission approved the transfer application on a motion by Commissioner Mercier, seconded by Commissioner Underwood.

Neither matter drew public opposition at the April 23 meeting. The transcript records that applicants provided paperwork and that the commission approved both items by voice vote with the three commissioners present.
