Library and Community Services Director Nick Shagda updated the Commission on the FY 2026 budget process on April 20, flagging several upcoming dates and a funding issue the city is addressing.
Shagda said the Master Fee Schedule public hearing and adoption is scheduled for April 28. He said a public budget workshop is likely to be scheduled for May 28 and that the City Council will hold a public hearing on June 1 with formal budget adoption expected June 23. He urged commissioners to monitor the process because the city is working through the loss of a state vehicle-license pass-through, which has prompted a cost-of-service review and recommended fee increases across departments.
“Some of that will have to do with this April 28th meeting… the city staff have done a cost of services study and they are presenting it to the City Council and saying, hey, here's all the fees that we think we should raise,” Shagda said. He added that the library’s final allocation of reductions or fee increases will depend on the Council’s adoption of fee recommendations.
Shagda said staff will continue to brief the Commission as the budget process proceeds and is available for additional conversations outside the public forum. No formal action was taken on the budget update at the meeting; commissioners will be able to comment during the scheduled public budget workshop and hearings.
