Board hears first readings on ATV routes and a speed-zone change for the city of Stanley
Summary

Ordinance 05-26 would amend county code section 58-39 to designate four additional segments on county highway ATV/UTV routes: a new route on County Highway B (in the town of Tilden) from 120th Street to 130th Street (0.78 miles); a corrected and expanded route on County Highway M (in the town of Samson) from 100th Street west to the Barron County line (3.3 miles) that corrects earlier drafting errors; a new route on County Highway O in the town of Anson from 175th Street east to 178th Street (0.5 miles); and a new route on County Trunk Highway Q in the town of Tilden from 118th Avenue west to County C (0.5 miles). The department reported the segments meet county safety criteria and are recommended for approval by the highway department; the item was presented as a first reading and will return next month for further consideration.
Separately, Ordinance 06-26 (first reading) would amend County Highway speed zones at the request of the city of Stanley. The proposed change would lower the speed limit on County Highway O from Fandry Park to West 8th Avenue from 35 mph to 25 mph; county staff said no additional speed study was required because 25 mph is the lowest legal statutory limit within city corporate limits. Highway staff and city representatives discussed signage and a short period of public notice for motorists; the board did not vote on the ordinance at this first reading.
No final votes were taken on either ordinance during the organizational meeting; both items will return for subsequent readings and action.
