Board ratifies tentative agreement with teachers union; union leader praises collaboration

The Stockton Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously ratified a tentative agreement with the Stockton Teachers Association (STA) covering successor negotiations for 2025'2028 and approved the required public financial disclosure forms.

During public comment, Justin McGee, STA negotiations team chair, praised district negotiators and described the agreement as responsive to urgent teacher priorities. "There is this sense out there that teachers are superhuman. We are actually quite human," McGee told trustees, urging support for the negotiated terms and urging attention to maintaining staffing and health coverage to avoid burnout.

Board members approved the ratification by roll-call vote with all trustees voting yes. Trustees also approved associated memoranda of understanding for voluntary teacher home visits and summer learning programs tied to the agreement and reflected in subsequent agenda items.

The ratification clears the way for implementation steps identified in the public financial disclosures presented at the meeting. The board packet notes that staff presented fiscal impacts as required by law; trustees voted to adopt the agreement and move forward with implementation and associated payroll/administrative steps.

Next steps: District and union staff will proceed with implementing the agreement terms as outlined in the MOU and public financial-disclosure documents; the board record shows unanimous support.
