District academic leaders presented results from the Beable literacy platform, highlighting reported Lexile reading gains at participating schools and plans to scale the program. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Casey Cobinach and Director Tamara described implementation at 14 initial sites covering roughly 2,000 students and shared examples of site-level growth.
Dr. Cobinach said the first five pilot sites recorded much larger than expected Lexile gains: Monizuma (+150 points), Elwood (+133 points) and others each exceeded targets, and district-wide participating students showed average growth significantly above the projected 27-point gain. The platform personalizes reading passages to student interests, uses Ryasc codes to link interests and career pathways, and offers monthly engagement features for schools.
Trustees asked how the results are shared with families and whether the district had parent-friendly reporting. Staff said the platform offers certificates, monthly challenges, and school-hosted family events (citing Fillmore as an example) to increase parent engagement and suggested more sites will incorporate family nights and communications as implementation expands.
District leaders said Jane Frederick and other middle and some high schools had begun implementation. Staff framed the program as complementary to other literacy strategies and called for sites to own parent engagement approaches; they said additional implementation data and parent-response metrics will be developed and reported as the rollout continues.
The board took no formal vote on purchasing at this meeting; the presentation was informational. Officials said they will return with additional metrics and family-engagement plans as the program scales.
