The Mukilteo School Board voted to adopt grade 6'8 English language arts instructional materials and grades 9'12 Advanced Placement English materials after board members reviewed sample materials and discussed instructional benefits.
A board director who previewed the materials described them as having a strong structure for middle-school instruction and said the curriculum emphasizes critical thinking and a global perspective. "I was impressed ' it's not what I did in middle school' it brings more critical thinking," the director said. Another director praised the materials' depth and the ability to support students who are catching up and those who are advanced.
After brief discussion, the board voted to approve the adoption. The motion was moved and seconded and the board chair announced the motion had been approved. The board did not provide a full roll-call tally in the meeting transcript; the record indicates the motion passed.
The adopted materials will be implemented per the district's curriculum and instruction timelines and staff will follow up with training and site-level planning for classroom rollout.
