The Jefferson City Council voted to authorize a $74,800 contract with Double Arch Construction LLC to repair deck damage and weak points on the High Street viaduct.
Public Works staff member Mr. Brimmer told the council that Parkland West structural engineers and the Missouri Department of Transportation's bridge division inspected the viaduct and agreed the repairs would allow the viaduct to reopen to traffic "with no load restrictions." Brimmer said the contract will address the most recent hole and two other weak points and is intended to reopen the viaduct while the city continues to pursue longer‑term funding.
"This contract will allow [the] viaduct to reopen while we continue [to] search for further funds," Mr. Brimmer said during the presentation. He added that the substructure is in good condition but that the city will continue to monitor the structure and close it again if future failures occur.
Council members asked about load restrictions and the schedule. Brimmer said a compliant DOT semi can drive over the repaired viaduct and that the contractor's timeline in the contract calls for completion within 30 days, though the contracting and mobilization process means the work will likely occur over the next couple of months.
What happens next: Public Works will supervise the repair work and continue to monitor the viaduct; staff indicated they will continue seeking grants or other funding for a longer‑term solution.
