Commissioner Mapp nominated Laufer for chair; nominations closed with no further contenders and the commission approved the appointment by roll-call vote, with Commissioners Laufer, Mapp, Nash and Ferraro recording "yes." Earlier in the meeting the commission nominated and unanimously elected Commissioner Ferraro as vice chair under S4847, which governs succession for the office when members hold over in a holdover status.
The leadership elections were followed by brief remarks from both leaders thanking staff and outgoing leadership for continuity and stewardship. The body then recessed for an executive session expected to last about 30 minutes.
