Cannon Falls — City staff told the council Tuesday that the comprehensive plan process is advancing and the city will host a community open house on May 19 from 4 to 6 p.m. at City Hall to gather public input on housing, parks and recreation and infrastructure.
"We will be having a community open house ... May 19th," a staff member said, asking the council to reserve the date. The event will feature stations on housing, parks and rec and infrastructure and staff said they will reach out to the comp plan steering committee and advertise the meeting to the public.
During the reports the council also heard that the Finance Committee discussed different tax-increment financing (TIF) district types and that a party has expressed interest in pursuing a TIF district for a potential project. Staff said details are still being finalized and that they will present an overview to the full council before releasing information publicly.
No formal council action or vote on a TIF district was taken; staff emphasized that they are still assembling details and that any decision would follow further briefings and required statutory processes.
