"We've sent out our 9,000th ballot. So, it's ramping up," the Clerk said, noting staff projections of 20,000–24,000 absentee ballots for the election. The office expects early voting sites to operate for the two weeks before Election Day.
The Clerk described election safeguards including an electronic ballot-verification system ("Bessie") that performs signature verification and image capture; election staff said ballots are run through the verifier multiple times, stored in locked cages with dual custody and under surveillance, and poll workers are trained to reduce human error.
When asked about turnout, a clerk-side estimate given to the board was 40–50% for the primary. Commissioners asked for a review of security and verification procedures; staff said the office routinely reviews security and ballot verification procedures.
No formal action was required; the board received the update and thanked staff for preparations for the upcoming election.
