Student-assignment report: small net loss, Grace Chapel and Trinity near capacity; Braxton mobile units removed

Anthony pointed to Gray’s Chapel and Trinity elementary approaching 90% capacity and reminded members the district monitors schools as they near the 95% cap that can trigger reassignments.
Anthony explained the table columns: reassignments within the system, admissions and releases. He said the release window closed at the end of March, reassignments continue through May 15 and admissions remain open into August. On inquiries about students from UR Ridge, Anthony said a few families applied for reassignment but most of the students are domiciled for Southwest and staff are collecting more information before final decisions.
The report also documented a drop in mobile units: the district reported 73 mobile units systemwide and noted three units previously at Braxton were removed following demolition. Anthony and board members discussed projections of roughly 225 students expected to go to Southwest and said they expect a clearer picture in the coming weeks.
No formal reassignment actions were taken at the work session; staff said NC State will help update capacity figures as part of later planning.
