Superintendent Dr. Williams presented the district's required three‑year review of e‑learning procedures and recommended changes intended to keep remote days aligned with typical school‑day expectations.
"The goal of our e‑learning is to make sure that we continue learning as if we were in school on the day that we have an emergency closure," Dr. Williams said. He summarized the proposed rules: assignments should generally be limited to 30–45 minutes per subject (about five hours total for the day); no additional homework beyond e‑learning assignments; teachers must post assignments and complete attendance by 9:00 a.m.; students will take attendance through a Google Form pushed to district iPads and students who do not sign in by 10:00 a.m. will receive a welfare call; teachers will hold office hours between noon and 2:00 p.m.; and students who cannot complete work will get two days for each e‑learning day to make up assignments.
As part of implementation, the district will post slide decks, attendance sheets and a feedback form on the district website. Dr. Williams said the district will move its practice day from November to October to better align with shifting weather patterns and will encourage students to take devices home when inclement weather is forecast.
The board opened the floor for public comment on the renewal; no speakers raised objections specific to the e‑learning procedures during that portion of public comment. Separately, a public commenter asked the district to consider a policy on administration of medicines and supplements on school trips and additional staff training on autism spectrum conditions.
Dr. Williams closed the presentation by noting administrators and the Joint Faculty Association president had reviewed the updated language and supported the plan. The presentation began as part of the public hearing/renewal item and included details on teacher, student and staff procedures, technology requirements, and a plan for annual review of feedback.
Next steps: the renewal will proceed through the board's consent/approval process as scheduled; staff will post materials and the feedback form on the district website and schedule the October practice day.
