The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education finance committee on April 23 reviewed a grant budget adjustment that staff said is intended to provide additional services to students identified under the McKinney‑Vento Act.
Maha Marin, senior director of grant management, told the committee the request concerns New Mexico Public Education Department funding flowing through Regional Educational Cooperative No. 9 and is targeted to support McKinney‑Vento students.
Board members pressed staff for specifics about the label 'one fund' used in the board matrix. Marin and Mr. David Beh Hill, executive director of budget and strategic planning, explained 'one fund' is an internal efficiency label (fund 26107) to group related awards in the packet, and that other targeted sources such as Indian education funds remain tracked separately.
"If there are McKinney‑Vento students who are Native American or African‑American, this funding could cover them," Marin said, noting that separate program funds (for example Indian education allocations) would be in addition to this grant.
A committee member referenced an amount of $44,250 in the discussion and asked whether any Indian education funds were rolled into the transfer; staff replied those funds are separate and would be in addition to the McKinney‑Vento allocation.
Staff stood ready to provide more detailed line‑item information on request and said they would supply the board office with account‑level detail if members want an at‑a‑glance breakdown.
The committee moved the item forward for placement on the board consent agenda.
