Mayor Rob Belt was sworn in at the Mayville Common Council organizational meeting, repeating the oath to uphold the U.S. and Wisconsin constitutions before the council and audience. "So help me God," he concluded during the ceremony, which the council followed with a brief photo session.
The council then administered oaths to newly seated alderpersons, including Bob Smith and Kim Olsson. During the subsequent nominations, council members nominated Bob Smith for council president; after a motion and second, the council elected him by voice vote.
Mayor Belt announced a slate of appointments to standing committees — naming chairs and members for finance, personnel, public safety, public works, parks and recreation, utilities, and other commissions — and the council voted to approve all appointments en masse. The mayor said he expected the next two years to "be good," thanking members for running and welcoming new representatives.
Council members asked procedural questions about representative changes and committee makeup; the mayor and staff said some committees will elect their own chairpersons and that agenda items to confirm additional details will appear in upcoming meetings.
The meeting adjourned at 6:24 p.m.; members remained afterward for photographs.
