Thirstston Conservation District seeks work session with Tumwater to align on 2040 strategic plan

During public comment, TJ Johnson, chair of the Thirstston Conservation District Board of Supervisors, described the district’s new strategic plan, called 2040 and Beyond, and a record $9.7 million budget. He said local rate‑payer funding represents roughly 6% of the district’s budget and that the district leverages state, federal and private funds to support conservation, climate resilience, watershed restoration and local food systems.
Johnson said the plan focuses on four priorities—protect and restore natural resources; build climate resilience and emergency preparedness; expand access and community connections to land and food; and strengthen organizational capacity—and that the district looks forward to working with Tumwater on aligned strategies. He asked the council to schedule a work session with the district; Acting City Administrator Kelly Adams and council members agreed to pursue a work session and to coordinate timing.
The district left copies of its strategic plan and annual report for council review. No council votes were taken during public comment.
