Lisa Thompson, chief of the Taxpayer Rights Advocate Office (TRA), told the board the office completed 27 cases in March 2026 and is working to expand multilingual access to taxpayer information.
Thompson reported that 18 of the March cases were in Vice Chair Gaines’s district (District 1), four in Chair Liieber’s district (District 2), two in Member Basque’s district (District 3) and three in Member Schaefer’s district (District 4). Of the 27 completed matters, 21 were valuation cases and six were administrative; among valuation topics, exclusions accounted for 10 cases (including parent/child, grandparent/grandchild, base‑year transfers and one solar exclusion).
She said the TRA currently has 15 information sheets in English and that four had been made available in Spanish as PDFs by a former communications officer. Thompson said she has discussed with Communications Officer John Taylor creating an HTML option for the information sheets so users can access translated or machine‑translated versions in many languages; the office will also update materials affected by pending legislation that could change certain provisions.
Board members asked about outreach and whether TRA staff meet with advocates from other agencies; Thompson said the TRA coordinates periodically with other state advocates and the IRS advocate, and that an interagency meeting was scheduled for May 14.
Thompson concluded by offering to answer further questions and reiterated the TRA’s role assisting taxpayers.
