Board approves ceremonial resolutions, schedules AFT negotiations hearing and adopts governance handbook

Resolutions: The board adopted Resolution 260422 (honoring parent volunteers), Resolution 260422A (designating May 5 as National Teacher Appreciation Day and May 13 as California Day of the Teacher) and Resolution 260422B (recognizing May 6 as National School Nurse Day). Each resolution was moved, seconded and approved by unanimous vote.
Labor and public hearings: The administration acknowledged receipt and directed public distribution of AFT Local 3267’s renewal contract proposal for 2026–27 and JSD’s counterproposal; both documents list articles to be opened in negotiations (wages, hours, health and welfare, class size, and procedures or early retirement incentives). Public hearings for the proposals were scheduled for May 13, 2026.
Personnel actions and governance: The board approved retirement requests for certificated staff (listed in the meeting record, including a school psychologist with an effective date of June 12, 2026) and classified staff retirements; the board also approved a line-by-line revision to the governance handbook (unity-of-purpose section) to serve as guidance for trustees. Each motion passed unanimously.
