The resolution text, introduced by the administration, described volunteer roles including classroom assistance, event organization, mentoring, fundraising and advisory service. The board moved and seconded the resolution and adopted it by unanimous vote.
Following adoption, staff read names of parent volunteers from multiple schools — including lists from JFK, MP Brown, Benjamin Franklin, Daniel Webster, George Washington, Fernando Rivera, Thomas Edison, Susan B. Anthony, Woodra Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Westlake and Garden Village — and invited recipients to come forward for certificates and a group photograph with trustees and staff.
Board members took turns thanking volunteers for their time and stressing the long-term value of parental engagement in student success. Trustees also recognized the role of volunteers in representing school cultures and traditions and encouraged continued involvement.
The board then recessed briefly for a photo and light refreshments before resuming the business portion of the meeting.
