Glenville mayor asks board to address parking near Oakland school

Glenville Mayor Mark Sullivan addressed the Gilmer County Board of Education during the delegation portion of the March 23 meeting and asked the board to help address parking shortages near Oakland school.
"For those who don't know me, I am Mark Sullivan, the the mayor of Glenville," Sullivan said, and described nearby houses with only one on-street parking space. He asked the board to consider establishing residential-only parking on one side of the street around the school and to place gravel on a nearby grass-covered former parking area so residents would have an off-street spot.
Board members responded that responsibility for the land may not lie with the school district and suggested coordinating with the little-league organization that uses nearby fields as well as roads staff. Board members said they would have Mr. Peters and road staff look at the location and report back.
The mayor's request was recorded as a delegation on the agenda; no formal vote or policy action was taken during the meeting. The board referred the matter for review by roads and other local stakeholders.
