Montgomery ISD recognizes Special Olympics delegation and senior honorees

The board recognized Special Olympics athletes and honored district salutatorian, valedictorian and other senior awardees; coaches and administrators highlighted student achievements and community support.
Trustees paused the business agenda to recognize student accomplishments.
Special Olympics: Sherah Phillips, self-introduced as delegation coordinator and coach for the Montgomery Special Olympics team, described the season (boccia, a cheer club and track), named athletes and thanked community partners for donations and hosting. "If you have not played boccia ball, it's a very fun game," Phillips said, noting the program will add bowling next year and that the team attended meets in Huntsville, the Woodlands and College Station.
Senior honors: District administrators recognized the salutatorian and valedictorian along with other top seniors and described academic and extracurricular achievements — AP coursework, UIL accomplishments, leadership roles and college plans. Presenters highlighted student awards, community service and athletics and congratulated families and staff who supported the students.
The recognitions provided ceremonial highlights before the board moved to consent and action items.
